The Anambra State Government has thrown its weight behind the Nigeria Police Force’s renewed campaign against cultism, substance abuse, cybercrime and other social vices, pledging full support for a statewide advocacy and sensitization programme.
The assurance came when the Anambra State Chapter of the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV) paid a courtesy visit to the Office of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) on Thursday ahead of the visit of the National Coordinator and the commencement of the campaign across the state.
The delegation, led by the State Coordinator of POCACOV, HRM Igwe Daniel Obelle of Nawfia, who was represented by Mr. Moses Ndukwu, briefed the state government on the objectives, activities and expected impact of the initiative.
According to the delegation, the campaign is designed to mobilize communities against cultism, drug abuse, cybercrime, violence and other social vices through sustained public enlightenment and stakeholder engagement.
The team disclosed that the advocacy would feature sensitization programmes in schools, communities, religious institutions and other public platforms to promote responsible citizenship, peaceful coexistence and positive youth development among young people in Anambra State.
Receiving the delegation, the Secretary to the State Government, Mrs. Chiamaka Nnake, commended the Nigeria Police Force and POCACOV for the initiative, describing it as a timely intervention in tackling emerging social challenges.
She reaffirmed the commitment of the Anambra State Government to supporting programmes that promote peace, security and the welfare of the people, while calling for stronger collaboration among stakeholders to ensure the success of the campaign.
The Anambra State Police Command expressed appreciation to the state government for its support and reiterated its commitment to using non-kinetic strategies, strategic partnerships and community engagement to prevent crime and build a safer and more secure Anambra State.
