Philanthropist Prince Morgan has launched a multi-million-naira humanitarian organisation, the Needy and Special People’s Initiative, to provide support for vulnerable and disadvantaged Nigerians.
The initiative, according to Morgan, will focus on healthcare, financial assistance, skills acquisition, employment opportunities, legal aid and general welfare.
He said the foundation was established out of his desire to help people facing hardship and bridge gaps where government assistance may not reach.
“The initiative was born out of the desire to serve humanity, to help people, and to provide what the government could not provide,” Morgan said.
He stressed that the organisation was independent of government and political organisations, adding that its sole purpose was to serve the people.
Morgan said registered members would benefit from healthcare support, financial assistance for small businesses, skills training and empowerment programmes, as well as connections to employment opportunities.
He also disclosed that the foundation would provide free legal assistance to members facing exploitation, intimidation or other legal challenges.
According to him, after two years, the foundation would contribute up to ₦10 million towards the establishment of a business or trade for a beneficiary’s child who has completed apprenticeship training, alongside whatever support is provided by the child’s master.
The first phase of the programme has commenced with healthcare assistance for widows, with financial and legal support to follow.
National Coordinator of the initiative, Chidi Kenneth Orji, urged Nigerians to register through their wards, local government areas and states to qualify for the benefits.
Orji said local government coordinators had been directed to appoint ward coordinators and mobilise eligible members across their communities.
The event ended with the inauguration of the foundation’s executive members.
