The Anambra State Town Union Councils (ASTUC) Youths have honoured community role models from the 15 communities in Orumba South Local Government Area as part of efforts to promote shared values, youth development and responsible citizenship.
The event, held at the Orumba South Local Government Headquarters, attracted community leaders, youths and other stakeholders and had the theme, “Celebrating Our Role Models and Shared Values as Ndi Anambra.”
President of ASTUC Youths, Comrade Ken Okoli, said Orumba South was the 11th local government area reached in the group’s ongoing value-orientation campaign across Anambra’s 21 LGAs.
He said the initiative was aimed at reminding youths of the values that define Onye Anambra while highlighting individuals whose lives could serve as positive examples.
Okoli stressed that infrastructure and other development projects could only be sustained when citizens, particularly youths, embraced responsible values and the right mindset.
Chairman of the occasion and APGA candidate for Orumba South Constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly, Sir Stanislaus Nnaka, described the initiative as commendable and pledged to support youth development if elected.
He disclosed plans for youth-oriented skills training and agricultural programmes.
The Youth Mayor of Orumba South, Comrade Chidozie Uzor, called on youths to reject violence, drug abuse, crime and unhealthy rivalry, while advocating greater opportunities for education, mentorship, skills acquisition and employment.
Among those honoured were High Chief Vincent Nwankwo of Onneh, Engr. Uche Okoli of Eziagu, Engr. Chimaobi Ucheagwu of Ihite, Dr. Chinedu Maduka of Umunze and Barr. Nicholas Okafor of Owerre-Ezukala.
The awardees urged young people to embrace hard work, discipline, skills acquisition, financial responsibility and good character.
A lecturer with Nwafor Orizu College of Education, Nsugbe, Mr. Ibeto Michael Uchenna, said the initiative would encourage youths to pursue positive role models rather than quick wealth.
The event also featured the presentation of the handbook, “I Believe in Anambra (Our New Value System),” and a declaration of support for Sir Stanislaus Nnaka ahead of the forthcoming State House of Assembly election.
