Residents of Okpuitumo community in Abakaliki Local Government Area of Ebonyi State have been left devastated after a powerful windstorm destroyed homes, businesses, and farmlands in the early hours of Tuesday.
The storm, which struck around 3:00 a.m. at Gmelina Junction, tore off roofs, flattened structures, and caused losses estimated in hundreds of millions of naira.
An Assemblies of God Church in the area was completely destroyed, forcing members to hold services outdoors.
Farmers and traders were also badly hit. Crops, including yams and poultry, were lost, while several shops had their goods destroyed by rain after roofs were blown off.
Despite the widespread destruction, no lives were lost, though some residents sustained minor injuries.
Victims, including the church leadership and affected residents, have appealed to the Ebonyi State Government and well-meaning Nigerians for urgent assistance to rebuild their lives.
