It was celebration on all fronts as Archbishop Professor David Okafoagu marked his 50 years in ministry in grand style with a power-packed thanksgiving service that shook the grounds of New Covenant Cathedral, Akaboukwu Uruagu, Nnewi, Anambra State.

The cathedral and its surroundings were a beehive of spiritual and social activity as crowds of worshippers, dignitaries, friends, family members and spiritual sons and daughters gathered from far and wide to honour the revered cleric and academic.

The atmosphere was electric filled with praise, prayers and testimonies ,as the man of God, known for his unwavering devotion to the Gospel and community, gave all glory to God for a journey laced with grace, favour and impact.

Preaching on the topic “Favour,” guest minister, Apostle Chris Anozie, described favour as the divine force that takes a man where human effort cannot. Citing Luke 1:26–27, he noted how Angel Gabriel’s message to Mary was proof that favour locates and lifts even the least expected. “Favour is what carries a person into purpose,” he thundered.

The ceremony reached a crescendo when renowned industrialist and Chairman of the occasion, Chief (Dr.) Cletus Ibeto, CON, took the podium. In glowing terms, he extolled Archbishop Okafoagu’s humility, resilience and devotion to the things of God. “This is a man whose life and ministry have touched countless lives,” he said.

Speaking to newsmen, Archbishop Okafoagu radiated joy and gratitude. “I’m overwhelmed by God’s goodness. It’s not always about riches; it’s about relationships, impact, and love,” he said. He shared how he frequently hosts people, not because he has plenty, but because giving is part of his nature. “Even when I have little, I share it. And people still spend their money to honour my invitation. That’s love,” he said.

Asked the secret of his strength, the Archbishop smiled and simply said: “My hobbies are simple listening to gospel messages, praying and fasting. That’s how I stay spiritually charged.”

In his goodwill message, he urged Christians, especially the Pentecostal community, to stay rooted in the Word and prayer. “God loves us deeply. We must love Him in return. Read your Bible, pray, and walk in His truth,” he admonished.

Also lending their voices were Evangelist Uzochukwu S. Nwanonyuo and Chief Sir Martins Ojukwu ,the Archbishop’s first in-law who poured encomiums on the celebrant and prayed for more years of fruitful service in God’s vineyard.

The thanksgiving climaxed in a carnival of joy, as choirs, cultural troupes and well-wishers danced, sang, and rejoiced, celebrating a life poured out for God, and a milestone that testifies to faith, favour, and faithfulness.
