The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Anambra State Command, has arrested three suspects over the alleged vandalism of government property and construction on government land in Onitsha South Local Government Area.
The Head of Media and Tactical Operations, SC Okadigbo Edwin, disclosed this on Tuesday while reviewing the command’s operational successes for the week.
He said the suspects were arrested on Monday by NSCDC operatives working with the Agunachemba Security Outfit while allegedly vandalising government property.
The suspects were identified as Mr. Oseloka Anyaorah of Onitsha Umuasi, who claimed to be Chairman of Ogbo Family, and Mr. John Nwobodo and Mr. Ifeanyi Nwancho, who reportedly claimed to work for Anyaorah.
According to Okadigbo, one government signpost, zinc sheets, nails and other building materials were recovered from the suspects.
He said preliminary investigations indicated that the suspects allegedly conspired to damage and remove parts of government infrastructure belonging to Onitsha South.
The State Commandant, Commandant Maku Olatunde, condemned the alleged vandalism, describing the destruction of public property as economic sabotage.
He directed that the suspects be profiled and charged to court after investigations are concluded, while urging traditional rulers, town union leaders and residents to provide security agencies with timely information on suspected vandalism.
