Anambra State Commissioner for Information and Value Reformation, Dr. Law Mefor, has raised concern over the growing abuse of illicit drugs among youths in the state, while commending the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for its sustained fight against drug trafficking.
Mefor spoke on Friday, September 11, 2026, when he paid a courtesy visit to the NDLEA State Commander, CN Onubogu Charles Orakwue, at the Command Headquarters in Awka.
The Commissioner said the visit was aimed at strengthening collaboration between the Ministry and the NDLEA in public enlightenment, advocacy, information dissemination and community engagement.
He expressed particular concern over the abuse of substances such as methamphetamine and cannabis among young people, stressing that the challenge required urgent and collective action by government agencies, families and communities.
Mefor also commended NDLEA Chairman/CEO, Brig. Gen. Mohammed Buba Marwa (Rtd.), for his leadership in the fight against drug abuse and illicit drug trafficking nationwide.
He assured the NDLEA Command that the Ministry was ready to support initiatives aimed at educating youths on the dangers of drug abuse and ensuring that drug dealers and traffickers are brought to justice.
Responding, Orakwue thanked the Commissioner for the visit and pledged the Command’s continued cooperation with the Ministry and the Anambra State Government.
He said the fight against drug abuse required the combined efforts of enforcement agencies, government institutions, traditional rulers, community leaders, schools, families and other stakeholders.
Also speaking, the Founding Managing Director of the Anambra State Civic Reformation Office, Sir Chuka Nnabuife, commended the proposed partnership, saying a coordinated approach involving enforcement, prevention and public enlightenment would help make Anambra safer.
The visit ended with a renewed commitment by the Ministry and NDLEA Command to deepen collaboration against drug abuse and illicit drug trafficking across the state.
