A commercial tricycle operator was on Wednesday killed in a road accident along the Awka–Enugu Expressway in Anambra State.

The crash occurred at Immigration Junction, Agu Awka, and involved a Mark LPG tanker and a TVS tricycle.

Eyewitnesses said the victim was trying to navigate diverted traffic due to ongoing road construction when the tanker, reportedly suffering brake failure, lost control and ran over him.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed the incident, noting that two persons were involved, one dead and the tanker driver unharmed.

Sector Public Education Officer, Margaret Onabe, said the victim’s body was deposited at the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital morgue.

She attributed the crash to brake failure leading to loss of control, while emergency responders secured the scene to prevent further danger due to the tanker’s LPG content.

Sector Commander Bridget Asekhauno urged drivers, especially operators of heavy-duty vehicles, to ensure proper vehicle maintenance and adhere to speed limits.
