The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 27-year-old ex-convict, Chidera Anthony Eleh, popularly known as “Timaya,” over his alleged involvement in a series of motorcycle-assisted robberies targeting Point-of-Sale (POS) operators and other unsuspecting victims in Awka, the state capital.
The suspect was arrested on Friday afternoon, October 9, 2026, as part of the command’s sustained intelligence-led operations to track down criminals involved in motorcycle-enabled robberies and related offences across the state.
Items recovered during the operation include a motorcycle, an axe, a cutlass and other incriminating items suspected to be connected to the alleged criminal activities.
The suspect is currently in police custody as investigations continue to determine the extent of his alleged involvement and identify other persons who may have participated in the robberies.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday in Awka.
According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, psc, MNIPS, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property and ensuring that anyone found culpable of criminal activities is brought to justice in accordance with the law.
The command also urged POS operators, commercial motorcycle riders and other business owners to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements or criminal activities to the nearest police station.
The police said further developments would be communicated as weekend patrols commenced.
