The Anambra State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Dr. Queen Agwu, has declared that the state maintains a record of electoral probity, insisting that elections conducted under her watch are free, fair, credible, inclusive and conclusive.

Agwu, who was posted to Anambra in 2022, has overseen elections in the state since the 2023 general election. Speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) headquarters in Awka on Friday, she reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to credible elections.

The meeting was attended by representatives of political parties, the media, security agencies and candidates.
“In Anambra, we do free, fair, credible, inclusive and conclusive elections,” the REC declared.

She urged political candidates to focus on presenting their programmes and convincing voters with their ideas rather than engaging in electoral malpractice. She also cautioned political parties against vote buying and called for peaceful and orderly campaigns.

“Let the candidates tell us who they are and what they want to do. That is what the campaign is about. I beg political parties to do their campaigns peacefully and orderly,” Agwu said.

With approximately 97 days to Nigeria’s 2027 general election, the REC disclosed that INEC was more than 80 per cent prepared for the polls, assuring stakeholders that the Commission was working to prevent technical glitches and other disruptions.
“INEC is ready,” she said.

Agwu also announced that the INEC recruitment portal was open for applications for various ad hoc positions, urging qualified residents of Anambra State to take advantage of the opportunity.

Her remarks come as preparations for the 2027 general election gather momentum, with electoral stakeholders expected to play critical roles in ensuring peaceful campaigns, credible voting and public confidence in the electoral process.
