Spain has reinforced its status as one of the world’s leading travel destinations after welcoming 46.6 million international tourists in the first half of 2026, despite global uncertainty triggered by the Middle East conflict.
The figure represents a 4.6 percent increase over the same period last year, highlighting the resilience of Spain’s tourism industry.
The United Kingdom remained Spain’s biggest source of visitors, accounting for more than 9.9 million arrivals between January and June. Germany followed with 5.7 million tourists, while France contributed 5.6 million visitors.
Tourism spending also surged during the period, with foreign visitors spending €63.8 billion (approximately US$73.6 billion), a seven percent increase compared to the first half of 2025.
Analysts attributed the impressive growth to the continued recovery of long-haul travel, particularly from the Americas, the return of business travel, and increasing demand for destinations viewed as safe and stable amid geopolitical tensions.
Spain received a record 96.8 million international tourists in 2025, maintaining its position as the world’s second most-visited country after France, which welcomed 105 million visitors.
