The Anambra State Police Command has recorded major operational breakthroughs in separate intelligence-led operations, resulting in the rescue of a kidnap victim, the arrest of two suspected members of a kidnapping syndicate, five suspected armed robbery suspects and the recovery of a stolen tricycle.
In the first operation, operatives of the Anambra IGP’s Violent Crime Response Unit, acting on credible intelligence, arrested Victor Onwuka, alias “Bugatti,” and Madukaife Chidiebere Kenechukwu, 30, in the early hours of August 16, 2026, at Akpukpokelemu Village, Nimo, Njikoka Local Government Area.
The suspects were allegedly involved in the abduction of a victim who was held captive for three days in a criminal hideout.
During the period of captivity, the suspects allegedly withdrew a total of ₦7 million from the victim’s bank accounts before fleeing with his Toyota Highlander SUV.
According to the Police, the suspects confessed during interrogation and were subsequently identified by the victim.
The Command said the suspects are also assisting investigators with useful information that could lead to the identification and arrest of other members of the syndicate still at large.
In a separate operation conducted on September 15, 2026, the same operatives, acting on open-source intelligence, arrested five suspects allegedly linked to the armed robbery and snatching of a TVS tricycle with registration number ASB595VD.
The tricycle was reportedly snatched by armed men in Asaba, Delta State, in April 2026.
Following the arrest of the first suspect, Nwakpa Friday, 38, and the recovery of the stolen tricycle at Old Road, Nkpor, operatives subsequently arrested four other suspected members of the robbery syndicate.
They were identified as Sylvester Nteshi, 53; Nwuzor Livinus, 35; Mgbom Uche, 27; and Chiweuba Chukwudi, 42.
The suspects and the recovered tricycle are currently in Police custody as investigation continues to establish the individual roles allegedly played by the suspects and track down other members of the syndicate who remain at large.
The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, psc, mnips, commended the operatives for what he described as their professionalism, intelligence-led approach and prompt response.
The CP reiterated the Command’s commitment to sustained intelligence-led operations, strategic deployment of technology and coordinated operational pressure against kidnapping, armed robbery, cultism and other violent crimes across the state.
The Command also urged members of the public to continue providing credible information that could assist security agencies in preventing and tackling criminal activities.
