A former People’s Democratic Party (PDP) stakeholder, Chief Eugene Nwizugbe on Sunday February 16 led hundreds of his members to join the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Nnewi North Local Government Area of Anamabra State.
Chief Nwizugbe, popularly known as Anyanwu Igbo Nile said his reason and that of his members for joining the APGA was based on what he described as the good work of Governor Charles Soludo of Anambra State who he said had come up with a long-lasting solution to security challenges in the State.
Nwizugbe said for Governor Soludo to have solved insecurity in Anambra State which he noted got to its climax, that the only way to appreciate the Governor is to support him for a second tenure.
“I joined APGA because of the good things Governor Soludo is doing in the State. He signed the Homeland Law and we are now free from the hands of kidnappers. Everybody should be happy about it.
“Anybody that you do not see at this event today is against Soludo, the person is the enemy of Soludo for second tenure.
“I’m Anyanwu Soludo. Anybody who claims to be an APGA stakeholder or leader and you do not see him here today, he is the enemy of Soludo for second tenure. I’m out to support Soludo for his second tenure.
“There were attempts to stop us from doing this event but because of the security our Governor has put in place, nobody came to attack us and they couldn’t stop us.
“They threatened to stop the event. We had expected over 3,000 decampees but they were afraid because some people instilled fear in them that they would be arrested. Many people were afraid to come out.
“I was former PDP stakeholder but Governor Soludo’s performance has made me to become an APGA member. And we must fight for Soludo’s re-election, “he said.
One of the decampees also from the PDP, Mr Ogueke Nwafor-Orizu said he contested councilorship in the last Local Government Area election under the PDP, saying that his choice of the APGA was because of the achievements of Governor Soludo in the area of security and road network.
He pledged to remain in APGA as his own choice of political party, adding that he was ready to fight for Soludo’s second tenure to enable him complete the projects he had started.
The event held at Zanzibar Towers Hotel, Otolo Nnewi attracted many APGA stakeholders from Awka, members of the Anambra State House of Assembly including the Majority Leader of the House, Hon Ikenna Ofodeme representing Ekwusigo Constituency. The member representing Nnewi North Constituency, Hon Augustine Ikedoji was also physically present at the event.
Hon Ofodeme while inaugurating the new APGA members urged them to join hands to work for the progress of the State under Governor Soludo.
He said that all hands must be on deck to support the fight against criminals in the State, urging the members to say something, if they see something.
