Ejiofor demands probe into alleged killing of Igbo family of six in Oyo

An Anambra-born human rights lawyer and lead counsel to the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Sir Ifeanyi Ejiofor, has called on the Federal Government and security agencies to investigate the reported killing of an Igbo family of six in Ibadan, Oyo State.

Ejiofor made the call in his Monday Musings commentary, demanding justice for Ephraim Chukwu, his wife and their four children, who were reportedly murdered in September 2026.

He urged security agencies to identify, arrest and prosecute anyone found responsible, warning that growing ethnic hatred and inflammatory rhetoric could threaten national unity and worsen insecurity ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The lawyer expressed concern over alleged social media calls for violence against Igbo people living in the South-West, urging authorities to investigate such statements and take appropriate action against those responsible.

He questioned the growing tendency to frame political differences along ethnic lines, stressing the longstanding relationships, intermarriages and peaceful coexistence between Igbo and Yoruba communities.

According to him, no Nigerian should face threats or persecution because of their ethnic background, adding that public officials and political actors must be held accountable if found to have encouraged ethnic hostility.

Ejiofor insisted that the reported killing of the Chukwu family required a thorough and credible investigation, stressing that justice must go beyond public condemnation to include prosecution and measures to prevent similar incidents.

“No political ambition is worth a single innocent life; no ethnic grievance justifies murder; and no government should wait for another family to be wiped out before acting,” he said.

He called on the government and security agencies to tackle hate speech, ethnic incitement and political violence to safeguard lives and promote peaceful coexistence across the country.
