FirstPower Electricity Distribution Company Limited has taken its electricity safety awareness campaign to UNIZIK High School, Awka, as part of activities marking the grand finale of its 2026 Customer Service Week.

The campaign, held on Friday, October 9, educated students on the dangers of unsafe electricity practices and precautions to prevent accidents at home, in school and within their communities.

Addressing the students during their morning assembly, the Head of Health, Safety and Environment (HSE), Engr. Tosin Caleb Fadairo, explained the importance of electricity and the dangers associated with its improper handling.

He warned the students against touching exposed wires, playing with electrical installations, mishandling appliances or attempting to repair electrical faults themselves. He advised them to report damaged installations and other electrical hazards to their parents, teachers or responsible adults.

The session featured an interactive question-and-answer segment, while writing materials were distributed to the students.

Also speaking, FirstPower’s Head of Customer Service, Mrs. Obianuju Okafor, urged the students to apply the safety lessons in their daily lives and share the knowledge with their families to help prevent electricity-related accidents.

The delegation later presented gift items to the school management, led by the Principal, Mrs. Israel Olanike Atinuke, who commended the company for the initiative and expressed hope for longer awareness sessions in the future.

The outreach formed part of Day Five activities marking FirstPower’s 2026 Customer Service Week, celebrated under the theme, “The Extra Mile.”

The week-long celebration, which commenced on Monday at the company’s headquarters in Awka, featured safety drills, cultural activities, customer visits, gift presentations and other engagements aimed at strengthening customer relations and promoting electricity safety.

The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Okechukwu Okafor, declared the celebration open, with activities also held across the company’s districts.
