“Don’t destroy your legacy”, Anglican Primate to Jonathan against 2027 presidential comeback

The Archbishop Metropolitan and Primate of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), Henry Ndukuba, has cautioned former President Goodluck Jonathan against returning to partisan politics ahead of the 2027 general elections, warning that such a move could damage his hard-earned legacy as a statesman.

Speaking during the First Session of the 13th Synod of the Diocese of Abuja, Ndukuba urged Jonathan to remain a respected elder statesman rather than re-enter the political battlefield.

“We don’t want you to spoil that good name. Please, keep off for now. Be the senior citizen that you should be,” the cleric said.

He praised Jonathan’s role in Nigeria’s democratic history, especially his widely celebrated concession to former President Muhammadu Buhari after the 2015 presidential election,va move credited with helping the country avoid post-election violence.

Ndukuba described Jonathan as a symbol of integrity and democratic maturity whose influence now extends beyond Nigeria to West Africa and the African continent through his peace and mediation roles with ECOWAS and the African Union.
Despite recurring speculation about a possible 2027 comeback, the Anglican primate insisted Jonathan should protect the reputation he has built globally rather than risk it in another presidential contest.
