The emergence of Hon. Vincent Onyeka as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Nnewi North, Nnewi South and Ekwusigo Federal Constituency has opened a fresh chapter in the political calculations ahead of the 2027 general elections in Anambra State.
What appeared to be an ordinary primary election has now evolved into a defining moment for the APC in the South East, especially with top party stakeholders already rallying behind the outcome and calling for total reconciliation among aggrieved camps.
Speaking in Nnewi shortly after the primary, the South East Zonal Organising Secretary of the APC, Hon. Dozie Ikedife Jr., described the exercise as transparent, credible and reflective of internal democracy within the party.
According to him, the victory of Vincent Onyeka was not imposed but earned through a competitive and fair contest, insisting that the party leadership had already ratified the list of winners across the South East.
Political observers believe Ikedife’s public endorsement of Onyeka is significant, considering his influential position within the APC hierarchy in the South East and his close ties with major party power brokers.
Even more striking was his appeal for unity after the contest, especially his commendation of Princess Esom-Nwafor Orizu, whom he described as a respected party leader who also performed strongly during the primary.
Analysts say the reconciliation tone adopted by Ikedife signals that the APC is determined to avoid post-primary crises that have historically weakened opposition parties in Anambra politics.
Beyond the primary itself, Ikedife used the occasion to project confidence in the APC’s growing structure in Anambra, citing the influence of notable figures like Chief Olisa Metu and the backing of Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma.
He maintained that the party’s leadership in the South East remains united behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and committed to consolidating support for the Renewed Hope Agenda ahead of 2027.
His remarks also highlighted the strategic role Anambra could play in APC’s broader South East expansion plans as the ruling party intensifies efforts to gain stronger political footing in the zone traditionally dominated by rival parties.
For many party faithful, Vincent Onyeka’s emergence is more than just a ticket victory, it is being viewed as a test of APC’s ability to build cohesion, mobilize grassroots support and present a formidable challenge in one of Anambra’s politically influential federal constituencies.
As preparations for the general elections gradually gather momentum, attention will now shift to whether the APC can successfully unite its internal blocs and convert its renewed optimism into electoral success.
