Livestock farmers across Anambra State have received practical training from the Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association (NVMA), Anambra State Chapter, aimed at improving animal production, increasing profitability, and strengthening food security.

The 2026 livestock workshop, themed “Ensuring and Sustaining the Availability of Animal Protein in the Diet of Our Local Communities,” brought together farmers and stakeholders from across the state at the Nnewi North Local Government Secretariat.

Representing the Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Ben Odoemenam, the Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Chinwe Achugbu, urged participants to embrace modern livestock management practices to unlock opportunities in the sector.

She assured them of the state government’s continued collaboration with the private sector to promote healthier and more profitable livestock production.

Chairman of Nnewi North Local Government Area, Hon. Echezona Anazodo, praised the initiative, describing knowledge as the foundation of sustainable growth in livestock farming.

He encouraged participants to share the skills acquired with other farmers in their communities.

Earlier, NVMA Anambra Chairman, Dr. Victor Ughaerumba, said the workshop was designed to equip farmers with practical knowledge for establishing and managing successful livestock enterprises.

He thanked stakeholders, particularly the Nnewi North Council Chairman, for supporting the programme.

Resource persons at the workshop trained participants on sustainable livestock management and modern production techniques, stressing that improved skills would enhance productivity, create jobs, and contribute to the state’s economy.
Participants described the training as timely and impactful, calling for similar programmes to be held regularly to strengthen the livestock sector and ensure food security in Anambra.
