The Anambra State Police Command has intervened in the ongoing dispute involving St Faith Anglican Church, Awka, with Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, urging the warring parties to embrace peaceful resolution through the church’s established hierarchy.
The intervention is aimed at preventing an escalation of the disagreement and ensuring that peace and public order are maintained while court proceedings concerning the matter continue.
CP Oji Ama held a peace meeting with the parties at his office on Friday, October 23, 2026, where he acknowledged the ongoing court proceedings and explained the need for all concerned to respect the judicial process.
The Commissioner urged the parties to pursue dialogue and explore appropriate channels within the church’s ecclesiastical hierarchy to resolve their differences without interfering with the ongoing legal proceedings.
He warned that ordinary parishioners and worshippers must not be made to suffer the consequences of disagreements among church leaders.
According to the Commissioner, all parties must demonstrate restraint, mutual respect and maturity in the interest of peace, unity and the sanctity of worship.
CP Ama also cautioned against inflammatory statements, confrontational behaviour and other actions capable of escalating tensions or threatening public peace.
He warned that the Command would not hesitate to take appropriate lawful measures against any conduct capable of causing a breach of law and order.
Reaffirming the police command’s impartiality, the Commissioner assured the parties that the police would continue to discharge their responsibilities professionally, address legitimate security concerns, respect the authority of the court and protect the rights of all concerned in accordance with the law.
The Command urged church leaders, parishioners and other stakeholders to cooperate with the ongoing peace efforts, respect due process and refrain from actions capable of turning the dispute into a security challenge.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the Command remained committed to maintaining peace, protecting lives and property, and ensuring that the dispute was managed without compromising public order.
