Pic: Late tallest man in Ghana, Samed
Ghana is mourning the death of its tallest man, Sulemana Abdul Samed, popularly known as Awuche, who died at the age of 33 after battling health complications.
BBC reports that Awuche passed away at the Tamale Teaching Hospital, where he was receiving treatment for infected sores on his legs.
He was widely known across Ghana for his remarkable height of 7ft 4in (223cm) and his warm, generous personality.
Diagnosed with Marfan syndrome, a genetic disorder affecting the body’s connective tissues, Awuche developed an unusual growth spurt in his early twenties.
The condition forced him to abandon his dream of becoming a driver and made daily life increasingly difficult.
Despite his health challenges, he remained optimistic and became a source of pride for his hometown of Gambaga.
His medical care was recently supported by businessman Ibrahim Mahama, brother of Ghanaian President John Mahama.
Family members described him as kind and selfless, saying his death has left many people in shock.
Awuche will be remembered not only for his extraordinary height but also for the humility and positivity that made him one of Ghana’s most admired personalities.
