The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) has reaffirmed its commitment to improving productivity, reducing hardship and expanding economic opportunities through technology-driven empowerment programmes.
Executive Vice Chairman of NASENI, Khalil Halilu, stated this during a five-day skills acquisition training for 100 youths in Onitsha, Anambra State, on modern electrical installation and maintenance under the agency’s Sustainable Empowerment Programme (NSEP).
The beneficiaries, comprising young men and women selected through community representatives, received practical training and tools to support skills development, self-reliance and sustainable livelihoods.
Halilu, represented by the Director of Planning and Policy Analysis, Nonyem Onyechi, said the programme was founded on the belief that science, technology and innovation should translate into tangible improvements in the lives of Nigerians.
He said NSEP was part of NASENI’s contribution to the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu, particularly in the areas of economic inclusion, job creation, human capital development and sustainable growth.
“For us, empowerment must go beyond the distribution of items. Real empowerment should reduce costs, improve productivity, strengthen capacity and give people greater control over their economic future,” Halilu said.
He urged the beneficiaries to use the skills and equipment responsibly and productively, assuring that NASENI would continue to support Nigerians with technologies that could improve their everyday lives.
The traditional ruler of Onitsha, Igwe Alfred Achebe, commended NASENI for choosing the community for the programme, describing the training as a privilege.
Achebe urged the beneficiaries to cascade the knowledge gained to the grassroots and make good use of the opportunity.
He also called for more empowerment programmes, particularly in agriculture and farming, stressing the importance of hard work, self-belief and proper business management.
