Hundreds of residents of Ukpor community in Nnewi South Local Government Area of Anambra State have benefited from a medical outreach sponsored by Chief (Dr.) Ebuka Onunkwo, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Seahorse Lubricants Industries Limited, as part of efforts to improve healthcare access and alleviate the suffering of vulnerable people.
The outreach, organised on Saturday, October 10, 2026, by the Community Empowerment Development Youth And Knowledge (CEDYK), a non-governmental organisation operating in Anambra State, was held at St. John’s Anglican Church, Ukpor, with more than 500 beneficiaries targeted.
The initiative forms part of Onunkwo’s reported philanthropic and empowerment activities across Anambra South Senatorial District, where he is seeking election in 2027 on the platform of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) to represent the district in the National Assembly.
Speaking at the event, the Duke of CEDYK, Brother Ikechukwu Uzukwu, described the medical outreach as one of the numerous humanitarian interventions sponsored by Onunkwo to support residents and cushion the effects of prevailing economic hardship.
Uzukwu said the initiative reflected Onunkwo’s commitment to reaching people in need through healthcare support, educational assistance, youth empowerment and other interventions designed to improve living conditions across the senatorial district.
According to him, Onunkwo has consistently demonstrated concern for the welfare of the less privileged, particularly widows, youths and people facing serious health challenges.
He cited the reported construction of houses for widows, including women Onunkwo never encountered for the first time, as one of the ways the businessman has extended his humanitarian activities to vulnerable members of society.
Uzukwu also disclosed that Onunkwo sponsors 20 youths from Anambra South annually to travel to China to acquire skills, describing the initiative as an investment in human capital development and an opportunity for young people to gain practical knowledge that could improve their future prospects.
He further said that Onunkwo assists with medical bills for patients requiring treatment outside Nigeria when their health conditions cannot be adequately managed locally.
Scholarships for students were also among the philanthropic interventions highlighted by the CEDYK official.
Medical Support for More Than 500 Beneficiaries
Explaining the purpose of the Ukpor outreach, Uzukwu said the programme was designed to attend to a range of health concerns, including rheumatism, arthritis, high cholesterol, eye problems and other medical conditions that could be managed within the scope of the exercise.
He noted that preparations had been made to accommodate more than 500 beneficiaries, underscoring the organisers’ intention to bring medical assistance closer to residents who might otherwise face difficulties accessing healthcare services.
Uzukwu expressed gratitude to Onunkwo for sponsoring the initiative and providing a platform through which the organisation could reach people in need.
He called for the extension of similar medical outreaches and empowerment programmes to other communities across Anambra South Senatorial District through the NGO, saying wider coverage would enable more residents to benefit from the humanitarian interventions.
Beneficiaries Express Gratitude
Some of the beneficiaries, including Madam Maria Oragba and Chief Donatus Chukwumeka, expressed appreciation to the organisers and sponsor for bringing the medical outreach to their community.
They prayed for the continuation of the initiative, urging the benefactors to sustain their support for vulnerable people and other residents requiring medical assistance.
The beneficiaries’ expressions of gratitude highlighted the importance of community-based health interventions, particularly for people who may struggle to meet the costs of medical consultations, treatment and other healthcare needs.
Officials of CEDYK from both Nnewi North and Nnewi South Local Government Areas were present at the event.
The outreach adds to the organisation’s community engagement activities and highlights the potential role of private individuals and non-governmental organisations in complementing efforts to improve access to healthcare and support disadvantaged communities.
