The Intercessory Mercy of God Church, Awka, Anambra State, has celebrated its 2026 Women’s Convention in grand style, with the event coinciding with the birthday anniversary of the church’s Spiritual Superintendent General (SSG), Major Prophet Augustine Onyekachi Obi.
The colourful celebration took place during the Sunday service at the auditorium of the Aguoye Awka Headquarters of the church, attracting members from various branches, including Aguleri and Asaba.
Anchoring the Women’s Convention, the SSG’s wife, Pst. Mrs Vivian Chioma Obi, popularly known as “Mummy General,” unveiled a series of activities centred on the theme of virtuous women as builders of homes.
The programme featured the Word of God, welcome songs, drama, dances and the much-anticipated “Mummy Mercy” competition, among other activities.
The women demonstrated their talents and commitment to the growth of the church, creating an atmosphere of joy, celebration and spiritual reflection throughout the convention.
The birthday segment for the SSG was anchored by Pst. Okey Nnebe and featured the cutting of the birthday cake, dances, expressions of appreciation and prayers and blessings for the celebrant.
The Men’s Wing, led by its Chairman, Hon. Dominic Okagbue, also presented special packages to Major One, as Prophet Obi is fondly called by his followers, as well as to the Women’s Wing in recognition of the successful hosting of the 2026 convention.
Speaking on the occasion, an elated Prophet Obi expressed appreciation to the women of the church for their dedication and contributions to the success of the convention.
“I appreciate the mothers of this church. You played great roles, and your 2026 convention is the best so far,” he said.
He thereafter pronounced blessings on all those present and members of the church in the diaspora.
Giving a biblical charge to the congregation, Prophet Obi urged women to remain wise and committed to building peaceful and successful homes.
He said: “Homes are made by the wisdom of women, but are destroyed by foolishness.”
He anchored the admonition on Proverbs 14:1, which teaches that a wise woman builds her house, while foolishness can bring about its destruction.
The celebration ended on a joyful note, with members joining in prayers, dances and thanksgiving for the successful convention and the birthday anniversary of their Spiritual Superintendent General.
