The Anambra State Police Command has dismissed reports concerning police presence at St. Faith Anglican Church as misleading, warning that the misrepresentation of security interventions could heighten tensions surrounding the alleged ecclesiastical dispute.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, stated this on Monday, October 19, 2026, while clarifying that the deployment of police personnel to any location was guided by the need to maintain law and order, prevent a breakdown of peace, protect lives and property, and ensure the safety of everyone involved.
Ikenga stressed that police presence should not be interpreted as an endorsement of any party or position in an ecclesiastical disagreement.
He explained that the Nigeria Police Force remained a neutral institution committed to enforcing the law, safeguarding citizens’ rights, and preventing disputes from escalating into threats to public peace and security.
The Command urged media organisations, social media users and other stakeholders to verify information before publication, exercise restraint in their reporting, and avoid disseminating narratives capable of inflaming tensions or deepening divisions within the religious community.
It cautioned that misleading interpretations of security interventions could worsen an already sensitive situation, emphasising the importance of responsible communication and respect for the rule of law.
The Police Command reassured Ndi Anambra that it would continue to discharge its constitutional responsibilities professionally and impartially, without fear or favour.
Ikenga added that the Command would not allow any disagreement, religious or otherwise, to degenerate into a breach of public peace and security.
