It was a celebration of life, love and goodwill as journalists, dignitaries, family members, friends and well-wishers gathered to honour a practicing journalist and respected community leader, Mr. Tobias Ekirika, on his birthday.
The celebration, held at his residence along his street, attracted people from different walks of life, underscoring Ekirika’s popularity, influence and reputation as a man of the people.
Among those who graced the occasion were journalists from various media houses, captains of industry, trade union leaders, government functionaries, members of the Catholic Men Organization (CMO), representatives of other associations to which he belongs, and members of his community.
His community members also turned out in large numbers to celebrate him, recognising his contributions as a community leader and advocate of peace.
The event was particularly emotional when his children described him as a wonderful father, loving and caring, and a dependable pillar of support to the family.
In his appreciation remarks, Ekirika thanked God for the gift of life and expressed gratitude to everyone who took time out of their busy schedules to celebrate with him.
He prayed for God’s blessings upon all those who honoured him, expressing the hope that they, too, would be celebrated in their own moments of joy. He also prayed for journey mercies for the guests as they returned to their respective destinations.
Some of the dignitaries at the event offered prayers for his continued good health, long life, divine protection and many more years of fruitful service to humanity.
Guests were treated to sumptuous meals and assorted drinks, while a disc jockey entertained the gathering with melodious music that kept the atmosphere lively.
The cutting of the birthday cake was one of the major highlights of the celebration, followed by lively dancing as guests joined in the festivities.
The colourful outing of masquerades added a traditional touch to the occasion, further entertaining guests and enriching the celebration.
The event ended on a joyful note, with guests describing Ekirika as a man of integrity, humility and goodwill whose contributions to journalism, family and community life made him worthy of celebration.
