The Anambra State Government has urged residents to report dilapidated buildings and dangerous structural defects in their communities before they result in building collapse, loss of lives and destruction of property.
The Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Barr. Chijioke Ojukwu, made the appeal on Tuesday, October 13, in a statement issued by the ministry, warning that unsafe structures pose serious risks to residents.
Ojukwu said the state government was committed to building safer, stronger and more secure communities but insisted that public cooperation was essential to achieving the goal.
“Dilapidated buildings and structural defects can pose serious risks to lives and property. Don’t wait until disaster strikes,” the commissioner warned.
He urged residents who notice cracks, structural weaknesses or other signs of danger in buildings within their neighbourhoods to report them promptly to the ministry for necessary action.
According to him, early reporting of potentially dangerous structures could prevent avoidable tragedies and save lives.
“Together, let’s build safer, stronger, and more secure communities,” he added.
The ministry reiterated its commitment to enforcing physical planning regulations and taking preventive measures to curb building collapse across Anambra State.
