David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has restored David Mark as National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), following a Supreme Court judgment that overturned an earlier Court of Appeal directive.
INEC’s updated records also list Rauf Aregbesola as National Secretary, alongside other members of the party’s National Working Committee.
The commission had removed the officials in April due to a legal dispute over the party’s leadership. However, the Supreme Court ruled that the directive maintaining the status quo was no longer valid after the case had been decided.
While the decision clears the way for Mark’s leadership to be recognised, the substantive suit challenging the ADC leadership is still pending at the Federal High Court.
The Mark-led faction has welcomed the move as a victory for due process and party stability.
