A diesel storage facility has been gutted by fire in Ndieze Nwankwo, along Edibros Road, Uruagu, Nnewi, Anambra State, leaving one person injured and several storage tanks damaged.

The inferno, which broke out around 5pm on Sunday, November 1, 2026, involved storage tanks containing diesel at the facility.
Residents alleged that the fire was deliberately started by an unidentified individual, raising suspicions of arson.

Confirming the incident, the Anambra State Fire Chief, Engr. Chiketa Chukwudi, said the actual cause of the fire had yet to be established, adding that one victim was rushed to hospital for medical attention.

According to him, the Anambra State Fire Service received a distress call at about 5:45pm and immediately deployed firefighters to the scene.

He said the firefighters successfully contained the inferno and prevented it from spreading to other areas, although some storage tanks were affected.

Chukwudi said the incident was suspected to be a case of arson based on allegations that an unidentified person deliberately set the facility ablaze, but stressed that the actual cause remained subject to investigation.

He added that firefighting operations ended at 8:58pm on Sunday.

The Fire Chief urged residents to exercise caution when handling and storing petroleum products, while advising the public to report fire outbreaks promptly to enable emergency responders to minimise casualties and property losses.
