Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), Zone 13, Ukpo, Godwin Eze, has ordered a discreet investigation into the death of an oil company worker, Mr Frank Kenechukwu, at Harbour Layout, Odoekpe, in Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The order followed a petition by the deceased’s elder brother, Stephen Kenechukwu, who alleged that his brother was murdered while on duty on May 11, 2026.
The family rejected claims by company staff that the deceased slumped and died, insisting he was healthy before leaving for work.
According to the petition, family members were not informed before the body was deposited at Borromeo Hospital mortuary.
The family also claimed bruises were discovered on the deceased’s body.
They questioned why he was allegedly taken directly to the mortuary instead of being rushed to a hospital for emergency treatment and medical confirmation of death.
“We thank God the AIG has ordered investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding his death,” the petition stated.
Reacting to the incident, Chairman of Fundamental Rights League International (FRLI), Mike Umezulike, described the situation as suspicious.
He said the proper response should have been to take the victim to a hospital for medical attention instead of a mortuary.
“To take him straight to the mortuary raises serious questions,” he said.
