The Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital (COOUTH), Amaku, Awka, will begin a one-week free screening programme for cervical, breast, and prostate cancers from Monday, July 27 to Friday, July 31, 2026.
The initiative is in celebration of the birthdays of Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, and his wife, Dr. Mrs. Nonye Soludo, while promoting early cancer detection and preventive healthcare.
Women aged 25 to 65 years will receive free cervical cancer (Pap smear) screening, while those 40 years and above will benefit from free mammography. The hospital will also provide free prostate cancer screening for 200 men aged 50 years and above.
The exercise will begin daily at 8:00 a.m. at the Departments of Obstetrics and Gynaecology and Radiography, COOUTH, Amaku, Awka.
Chief Medical Director, Dr. Maureen Uche Umeakuewulu, said the outreach is aimed at appreciating the Soludos for their commitment to improving healthcare and promoting healthy living in Anambra State.
She urged eligible residents to take advantage of the programme, emphasizing that early detection remains the most effective way to reduce deaths from cervical, breast, and prostate cancers.
