The Anambra State Police Command has condemned the alleged brutal abuse of a seven-year-old girl in Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area, following the arrest of her 32-year-old mother, Mrs. Ogechi Ofoma.
The incident, which was reported to the police on the evening of September 13, 2026, involved alleged severe physical abuse of the child, identified as Oluebube Ofoma.
According to the Command, the girl was reportedly subjected to brutal treatment, including injuries allegedly inflicted with a hot knife.
The child was rescued following the prompt intervention of security personnel from Ibollo Community, Awada-Obosi, and concerned residents, who also helped facilitate the arrest of the suspect.
The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, has commenced collaboration with the state Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare to secure urgent medical attention, protection and other necessary welfare support for the victim.
The police commended the Ibollo Community security personnel and residents for their vigilance and swift intervention, saying their action helped prevent further harm to the child and enabled immediate police intervention.
The Command assured the public that the investigation would be conducted thoroughly and professionally, stressing that the welfare, safety and best interests of the child remain paramount.
It further pledged to work with relevant agencies to protect vulnerable persons and ensure that anyone found culpable is brought to justice in accordance with the law.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed this in a statement issued in Awka on Monday, September 14, 2026.
