The Anambra State Police Command has intensified surveillance and intelligence-led operations to track down suspected abductors following the rescue of a 16-year-old boy, Favour Ayogu, who was allegedly abducted in Igboeze South Local Government Area of Enugu State and later abandoned near a security checkpoint in Onitsha.
The victim was rescued on the evening of Sunday, September 13, 2026, following an improved joint security operation in the commercial city.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, a joint patrol team operating at Ekene Junction, along Oguta Road, Onitsha, intercepted the teenager after unidentified persons reportedly dropped him from a black Toyota Highlander SUV close to the security checkpoint.
The swift intervention of the security team saved the boy from possible further harm, as the victim was taken into safety.
Following the rescue, the Command said it had intensified surveillance and other intelligence-led measures aimed at identifying, tracing and arresting members of the suspected gang behind the alleged abduction.
The police appealed to members of the public, particularly residents of Igboeze South and Ibagwa-Aka in Enugu State, who may have information capable of helping to locate the victim’s family, to contact the nearest police station or the Anambra State Police Command.
The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, psc, mnips, commended the joint patrol team for its vigilance, professionalism and prompt response which led to the boy’s rescue.
CP Oji Ama also directed personnel to sustain intelligence-led patrols, strategic checkpoints and coordinated security operations across the state.
The Command reassured residents and visitors that it would continue to protect lives and property, respond swiftly to distress situations and ensure that criminal elements have no safe haven in Anambra State.
