The re-elected President General of Oba Women Patriotic Union (Inyom Oba), Adaife Ngozi Chizoba Onwuka, has called on sons, daughters and stakeholders of Oba Community in Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State to unite and work towards the development of the community.

Onwuka made the call after she and her executive members were unanimously re-elected for a second four-year term at the union’s August General Meeting.

In her address, themed “Nyee Aka Dozie Obodo Anyi Bu Oba” (Help in Rebuilding Our Community, Oba), Onwuka thanked the women for renewing their confidence in her leadership and pledged to consolidate the achievements of her first tenure.

She listed women empowerment, girl-child education, healthcare sensitisation and support for vulnerable families among her priorities.

According to her, one of the major achievements of her first tenure was the commencement of efforts to secure approval for Oba Women School Ltd to register students for WAEC and other senior secondary examinations.

She said the school commenced construction of a two-storey building after inspectors identified inadequate facilities as a major challenge, expressing hope that the project would be completed during her second tenure.

Onwuka also disclosed that the union secured interest-free revolving loans through Adaeze Social Club to support women in business. She said nine women received ₦150,000 each in the previous scheme, while another set of 10 women received ₦200,000 each this year.

She further appealed to women and youths to embrace free skills-acquisition programmes, including baking and tiling, organised at the Oba Civic Centre every Sunday by 3pm.

The women leader urged parents to pay greater attention to the upbringing of their children and called on youths involved in social vices to embrace legitimate skills and employment opportunities.

She also commended the Traditional Ruler of Oba, Igwe Augustine Emelobe, Eze Okpoko II, for supporting youth empowerment programmes, including long-distance driving training and employment opportunities.

Onwuka appealed to the traditional ruler, town union leadership and other stakeholders to partner with Inyom Oba in implementing people-oriented projects.

“Development is a collective responsibility. When we unite in purpose and support one another, Oba will continue to grow as the Light of the Nation,” she said.

She stressed that there was no room for idleness if the community’s development vision was to be achieved.
