Male students in Anambra State have been urged to resist peer pressure, social media distractions and other negative influences capable of affecting their future.

The advice was given by E-KEEPA’S Enterprise during the 2026 International Day of the Boy Child celebration held at Rehoboth International College, Okpuno, Awka.

The event, themed “Boys with Purpose: Confident Minds, Healthy Lives,” attracted over 100 students and featured mentorship sessions, motivational talks and lectures focused on confidence building, healthy living and purposeful lifestyles.

Speaking at the programme, Communications Officer of E-KEEPA’S Enterprise, Ukpa Ewa, said the International Day of the Boy Child, observed annually on May 16, was designed to support, mentor and empower boys.

She encouraged the students to embrace discipline, education and integrity while avoiding violence, drug abuse and reckless behaviour.

“To every boy here today, remember that your voice matters and your dreams are valid. Choose wisdom over recklessness, character over popularity and purpose over distractions,” she said.

Resource persons at the event, including Dr. Gabriel Alonta of Nnamdi Azikiwe University and Mr. Ifeanyi Asiegbu of AIGShelters, urged the boys to discover their talents early and explore opportunities in technology, software engineering and robotics.

Another speaker, Christian Mmadubueze of the Gender Perspective and Social Development Centre, spoke against bullying and gender-based violence, while Cyril Okedinachi of the Anambra State AIDS Control Agency emphasized emotional management and mental well-being among boys.

The organizers appreciated Dr. Ossy Onuko and the Ossy & Oby Onuko Foundation for sponsoring the programme and supporting youth development initiatives.

The event also featured cultural performances by the Achala-Ugo Dance Troupe of Rehoboth International College.
