The Mayor of Anaocha Local Government Area, Comrade Romanus Ibekwe, has been named Anambra State’s Best Performing Mayor in Primary Healthcare Delivery, further underscoring his administration’s development strides across the council area.
Ibekwe received the award and a cash prize of ₦3 million at the Anambra Primary Healthcare Leadership Challenge held in Awka, where Anaocha emerged as the top-performing local government in primary healthcare among the state’s 21 councils.
Under his administration, more than 23 primary healthcare centres were equipped with modern facilities, while over 23 solar-powered boreholes were provided to improve access to healthcare and clean water.
His tenure also witnessed investments in education, road projects, environmental sanitation, youth empowerment initiatives, and the establishment of a palm oil processing factory to boost local economic growth.
Speaking after receiving the award, Ibekwe dedicated the honour to the people of Anaocha, healthcare workers, traditional rulers, councillors, and other stakeholders who contributed to the achievement.
He also thanked Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Charles Soludo, for supporting grassroots development across the state.
The award is widely seen as recognition of the developmental efforts recorded in Anaocha during Ibekwe’s tenure.
