The Ebonyi Unity Forum, Anambra State, has condemned the gruesome killings of a young lady and an 18-year-old boy in Aguata Local Government Area, demanding thorough investigations and justice for the victims.
In a statement jointly signed by its President-General, Chief Moses Chukwuma Ofoke, CEO of Mosfrank International, and Secretary, Comrade Aloke Nnabuike Stanley, the forum described the incidents as disturbing violations of the sanctity of human life.
The victims were identified as Miss Mmesoma of Uga, allegedly murdered by her boyfriend, Ofoke Emmanuel Chima, and an 18-year-old boy reportedly killed by his father, an Ebonyi indigene, at Ori-Eri.
The forum expressed condolences to the bereaved families, adding that neither relationship disputes nor family disagreements could justify the unlawful taking of human life.
It called on the Anambra State Police Command, the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and other relevant security agencies to conduct comprehensive, impartial and transparent investigations into both cases and ensure that anyone found culpable is prosecuted in accordance with the law.
The group also urged the authorities to handle the investigations professionally to ensure justice and prevent similar tragedies.
While distancing the wider Ebonyi community from the alleged actions of the individuals involved, the forum warned against stigmatising Ebonyi indigenes over the incidents.
It reaffirmed the commitment of Ebonyi people residing in Anambra to peaceful coexistence, mutual respect and cordial relationships with their host communities.
The forum appealed to residents of Uga and Ori-Eri, community leaders, youths and the general public to remain calm and law-abiding while investigations continue.
It cautioned against retaliation, the spread of unverified information and inflammatory comments capable of escalating tensions, urging traditional rulers and community stakeholders to work together to preserve peace.
The statement reiterated the forum’s position that violence was unacceptable and called for justice, accountability and the protection of human life.
