The Anambra State Police Command has recorded another significant breakthrough in its ongoing efforts to curb violent crime, following the recovery of two fabricated pistols and three caps bearing an inscription associated with the Vikings Confraternity from an abandoned motorcycle in Awka North Local Government Area.
The recovery was made on Thursday afternoon, August 13, 2026, when operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), while on routine patrol along the Isuaniocha Bridge, sighted two young men riding a black Sanyang motorcycle without a registration number.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, the suspects became suspiciously evasive upon sighting the police team, suddenly and recklessly turning the motorcycle in an apparent attempt to escape.
The operatives immediately gave chase.
During the pursuit, the suspects reportedly fell from the motorcycle and abandoned it, along with two slippers and a bag, before fleeing into a nearby bush.
A subsequent search of the abandoned bag led to the recovery of two fabricated pistols and three caps bearing an inscription associated with the Vikings Confraternity.
The Command said efforts are currently ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects and establish their identities, affiliations and the circumstances surrounding their possession of the recovered firearms and items.
The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, psc, mnips, commended the operatives for their vigilance and directed that efforts be intensified to track down the fleeing suspects.
CP Oji Ama reiterated the Command’s commitment to sustained patrols, intelligence-led operations and proactive policing aimed at disrupting criminal activities and protecting residents across the state.
The Command urged members of the public to remain vigilant and provide useful information that could assist security agencies in apprehending criminal elements.
