Anambra Police arrest suspect over viral assault in Umueri, hunt for accomplice ongoing

The Anambra State Police Command has urged residents to remain calm following the circulation of a disturbing viral video showing two young women assaulting another girl in Umueri.


The Command in a statement from its Spokesman, SP Tochukwu Ikenga confirmed the arrest of one of the suspects, identified as Chidimma Ogugua, 19, who is currently in police custody. It added that efforts have been intensified to apprehend the second suspect, who is on the run.


According to preliminary investigations, the victim was physically attacked after a disagreement. The police condemned the act, describing it as cruel, inhuman, and a clear violation of the law.


The Commissioner of Police in the state reassured the public that justice would be served, reiterating the Command’s commitment to safeguarding the rights and dignity of all individuals, particularly vulnerable persons.


The Command also called on members of the public with useful information that could aid the investigation or lead to the arrest of the fleeing suspect to come forward, assuring that all information would be treated with strict confidentiality.


It noted that further updates would be provided as the investigation progresses.
