Police nab alleged cult executioner in Anambra, recover arms, uncover multiple killings

The Anambra State Police Command has recorded a major breakthrough in its ongoing fight against cult-related crimes following the arrest and confession of a suspected notorious cultist.

A statement from the Anambra State Police Command Spokesman, SP Tochukwu Ikenga said the suspect, Favour Izunna, popularly known as Njoku, aged 22, was arrested on April 30, 2026, by operatives of the Special Anti-Cultism Unit in Enugwu Ukwu.

He is alleged to be a member of the Vikings Confraternity, where he reportedly served as an executioner, terrorising residents of Obosi and surrounding areas.

Acting on intelligence obtained during interrogation, police operatives, with support from the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Awkuzu, stormed a criminal hideout in Obosi where they recovered a pump-action gun, five live cartridges, a locally made Beretta pistol, and seven rounds of 7.5mm live ammunition.

During further questioning, the suspect confessed to the murder of about five individuals in Obosi. However, he clearly identified three of the victims as Somtochukwu Alfred, Udechukwu Izuchukwu, and Izuchukwu Obi.

Izunna also alleged that certain individuals sponsored the killings, claiming he was contracted to carry out the attacks within the community.

In addition, he admitted involvement in several kidnapping operations across Anambra State, naming victims including Emeka Chukwuka and Chinelo Onyeka.

Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, directed intensified efforts to apprehend other members of the gang as well as the alleged sponsors who remain at large.

The Command assured that further updates on the investigation will be made public as they unfold.
