…promises youth empowerment, scholarships, free healthcare, erosion control for Awka North/South

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate for Awka North and Awka South Federal Constituency in the 2027 general elections, Hon. Dominic Okey Nwuzor, has pledged that he will not become a “snatch and vanish” representative if elected.
Nwuzor, who made the pledge in an interview in Awka on Sunday, said he would remain accessible to his constituents and work closely with them throughout his tenure.
He expressed concern over what he described as the lack of visible development across the federal constituency, saying many youths in the area had continued to complain about poor development and lack of opportunities.
“Whenever I come home, the youths meet me and tell me that nothing is happening, that there is no development. They tell me that they trust me and believe in me.
“I am somebody that whatever I say, you can take it to the bank. So, it is time for me to represent them,” he said.
Nwuzor said his long involvement in national politics had enabled him to motivate and interact with the people, adding that his ambition to represent the constituency was driven by what he described as a “divine mandate.”
He said his major priority would be to empower youths and keep them productively engaged through skill acquisition, sports, entertainment and other initiatives.
“This is a divine mandate. My mission is to save a lot of families from Awka North and South, more especially to keep the youths engaged.
“When the youths are engaged, crying will reduce drastically, and it gives joy to the growth of society. If they are doing something, everybody is okay,” he said.
According to him, his youth empowerment agenda would include skills acquisition, football, film and other creative activities, while promising to support students through scholarships.
He also pledged to pursue free healthcare initiatives for constituents as part of his proposed programmes.
On the issue of erosion, Nwuzor expressed concern over the devastation caused by erosion in his Obizi clan, promising to use his position in the House of Representatives to seek intervention through the ecological fund.
He said he would attract relevant agencies and experts to help address the erosion menace affecting his people.
Nwuzor said that when the campaign officially begins on August 19, he would have the opportunity to present more of his programmes and policies directly to voters.
The ADC candidate also criticised the practice whereby elected representatives allegedly disappear from their constituencies after winning elections, only to return when another election approaches.
“You see, there is one practice that happens all the time in elections, season after season. People will be elected, they will not come to the people. They will not see them, they will not answer their phones, they will not do anything.
“Once it gets close to another election, they start buying this, buying that. It is deception,” he said.
Nwuzor said his approach would be different, promising to begin consultations with constituents from the first day in office.
He said he would regularly engage communities and wards to identify their most pressing needs and incorporate them into a development plan.
“From day one, I will sit down with the people, various communities, various wards and discuss with them.
“People can say they need a school. Some can say they need water, while others can say they need jobs for their children. There will be different problems.
“So, we sit down, harmonise them and draw the budget,” he said.
Nwuzor said his ultimate objective was to establish a representative system where the people would not only see their representative during election campaigns but would have regular access to him and participate in determining the development priorities of the Constituency.
