…Cleric says he foresaw move against Obi, warns government against silencing opposition
By Our Correspondent
The General Overseer of Soul Revival Outreach, Nnewi, Anambra State, Prophet Ikechukwu Uzukwu, has alleged that there is a deliberate plot to prevent Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Mr. Peter Obi, from appearing on the ballot in the 2027 general election.
Speaking on Saturday, the cleric said he had earlier prophesied that forces were working behind the scenes to ensure Obi’s name would not appear on the ballot but was dismissed and labelled a false prophet.
‘Opposition Being Silenced’
Prophet Uzukwu accused the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of attempting to suppress opposition voices, warning that such actions amounted to “playing with fire.”
He questioned whether the current political climate reflected the democratic ideals President Tinubu had long championed during his years in the opposition.
The cleric further described the alleged deregistration of political parties as an unusual development in Nigeria’s democratic history, claiming it was part of a broader strategy by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to weaken opposition ahead of the 2027 elections.
“That is his own plan, but the opposition has its own plan; the Nigerian masses have their own plan; the Western world has its own plan, and we shall see which plan will ultimately prevail,” he said.
Economy, Security Under Fire
Prophet Uzukwu lamented the state of the Nigerian economy, describing it as failed and characterised by widespread hunger and hardship.
On insecurity, he questioned the effectiveness of the National Identification Number (NIN), recalling that Nigerians were told it would help security agencies combat crime.
According to him, despite the policy, kidnappers and bandits continue to operate freely while victims remain in captivity for long periods.
He cited the recent kidnapping incident in Oyo State, wondering why security agencies often struggle to locate criminal hideouts unless prominent Nigerians are involved.
He warned that the worsening hardship across the country could eventually provoke mass resistance if urgent steps were not taken to improve the situation.
Calls on Trump, Clergy to Speak Out
The prophet appealed to leaders of the Western world, particularly United States President Donald Trump, to support efforts aimed at strengthening democracy in Nigeria.
He also decried the loss of innocent lives to banditry and violent crime despite the presence of numerous security agencies across the country.
Prophet Uzukwu further prophesied that the APC-led federal government would witness the end of the ruling party, declaring that the APC would soon fizzle out.
He also maintained that Peter Obi made a strategic mistake by failing to build and strengthen his own political party from the outset.
The cleric, popularly known as the Anambra Prophet, urged Christian leaders across the country to stop remaining silent on political issues and instead speak boldly against bad governance and leadership.
