Residents of Awka, Anambra State, have applauded the launch of the Prof. Anthony Ikpechukwu Agbata Health Foundation, an initiative providing free monthly medical services to indigent patients.

The foundation, established by the family of the late Prof. Anthony Agbata, was unveiled during the 5th Awka Union USA/Canada International Medical Outreach at Ezi-Umuanaga, Agulu Quarter, Awka.
Chairman of the occasion, Dr. Henry Onwumbiko, said the outreach offers free health screenings, consultations, maternal and child healthcare support, vision tests, essential drugs and health education, especially for people with chronic illnesses.
He explained that the free medical outreach would hold every last Saturday of the month at Udora Hospital and Maternity, Ezi Umuanaga Village, Awka.
Facilitator of the foundation, Dr. Tochukwu Uyanwune (Nee Agbata), said the initiative was created to reduce deaths linked to untreated conditions such as diabetes, hypertension and stroke.
She described the programme as the family’s way of sustaining the humanitarian legacy of their late father and giving back to the Awka community.
