NCC orders Telcos to compensate subscribers with airtime over poor service

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has directed telecom operators to compensate subscribers with airtime credits for poor network service in parts of the country.

Executive Vice Chairman, Aminu Maida, disclosed this during a media briefing, noting that the directive follows verified failures by operators to meet minimum quality standards.

He explained that affected users—particularly those who experienced service disruptions between November 2025 and January 2026—will receive airtime credits with notifications explaining the reason and value.

Maida stressed that the compensation is a compliance obligation for telecom providers, not a refund from the regulator. He added that the NCC will monitor implementation and sanction any operator that fails to comply.

The move is part of broader efforts to improve service quality, strengthen consumer protection, and ensure accountability across Nigeria’s telecom sector.
