The Nigerian Institution of Safety Engineers (NISafetyE), a division of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, has inaugurated Engr. Bethram Nwajagu as the 4th Chairman of its Anambra State Chapter.
The investiture ceremony, held on Saturday, August 1, at King David Hotels, Awka, witnessed the immediate past Chairman, Engr. Finbarr Ajegwu, administering the oath of office to the new chapter leader.
In his inaugural address, Engr. Nwajagu pledged to consolidate the achievements of previous administrations while strengthening the institution’s role in promoting safety culture and effective safety management across the state.
He assured members that his administration would sustain existing programmes and improve them through innovation, collaboration and purposeful leadership.
Nwajagu identified the establishment of a strategic safety commission, stronger partnerships with government agencies, increased institutional visibility and the development of young professionals as key priorities.
“We will work towards having a safety commission, synergise with key government parastatals and champion safety first, which remains the bedrock of engineering,” he said.
National Chairman of the Institution, Engr. Monday Abadum, urged members to support the new leadership in advancing the objectives of the organisation and strengthening safety advocacy.
Represented by the National Vice Chairman, Engr. Francis Itafo, Abadum called for continued dedication and commitment from members towards achieving the institution’s shared vision of making safety a national priority.
The event also featured awards and technical paper presentations on the theme, “Advancing Public Safety: Collaborative Governance Between Engineers and Regulators,” delivered by Dr. David Onuoha and Bartholomew Nweke.
