Some Army personnel were feared dead as their vehicle stepped on Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) planted on the way by Boko Haram terrorists in Borno community, Daily Sun reports.
The incident occurred on Monday as a reinforcement team from the military base at Wajuroko in Sabon Gari, Damboa Local Government Area(LGA) of the state pursued some Boko Haram terrorists after an attack unknown to them that the insurgents have buried IEDs on the way.
An explosion from the IEDs, however, caused serious damage, leading to the death of some of the troops. Unconfirmed numbers of troops were also injured in the incident.
The military has not confirmed the attack as at the time of filing this report. The area is one of the flashpoints of terrorist attacks in Borno state.
IEDs attacks on military troops in the counter-insurgency operation in the North East underscores the complex nature of the war against terrorism.
