The Anambra State Disability Rights Commission (ANSDRC) has called for greater inclusion, understanding and support for persons with learning disabilities, urging society to create equal opportunities for them to thrive.

Chairman of the commission, Dr. Chukwuka Ezewuzie, made the appeal in a message marking the International Week for Persons with Learning Disabilities, themed “Promoting Inclusion, Understanding, and Support for Persons with Learning Disabilities.”

He said learning disabilities affect how individuals process information but do not define their intelligence, talents or potential for success.

Ezewuzie urged families, schools, healthcare professionals and communities to provide the support needed for persons with learning disabilities, stressing that early intervention, inclusive education and the elimination of stigma are essential.

He also emphasized the importance of involving persons with learning disabilities in decisions affecting them, saying their voices and aspirations must be respected.

According to him, building an inclusive society requires recognizing abilities rather than limitations and ensuring everyone has the opportunity to reach their full potential.
