The Anambra State Police Command has disclosed that the deadly attack on residential settlers in Agu-Ifite during the early hours of July 21, 2026, was part of a calculated criminal plot aimed at igniting ethnic tension and destabilising the prevailing peace and security in the state.
According to the Command, Ndi Anambra have continued to demonstrate remarkable unity, tolerance and peaceful coexistence, refusing to be drawn into divisive ethnic narratives.
The Police noted that this collective resolve has frustrated the criminal agenda of those seeking to sow discord among residents.
Following the incident, the Police, alongside a Joint Security Team, immediately visited the scene for an on-the-spot assessment and operational review.
The team also engaged community leaders, representatives of the affected settlers and other critical stakeholders to strengthen public confidence, gather firsthand information and reinforce ongoing security measures.
The Command revealed that intelligence obtained from survivors and other credible sources has generated useful leads. Consequently, security operatives have intensified intelligence-driven and coordinated manhunt operations to identify, apprehend and prosecute all those responsible for the attack.
The Police urged residents to remain calm, vigilant and continue supporting security agencies with credible and timely information.
The Command reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding every law-abiding resident of Anambra State, irrespective of ethnic or religious background, assuring that no effort would be spared in bringing the perpetrators to justice.
