For Spain to become the first country in football history to simultaneously hold both the FIFA Men’s World Cup and FIFA Women’s World Cup titles has been widely commended and celebrated.
The historic feat was confirmed after Spain defeated Argentina 1-0 in the 2026 FIFA World Cup final in New York on Sunday, adding the men’s crown to the women’s title won in 2023.
FIFA celebrated the achievement on its official X account, describing Spain as “history-makers” for becoming the first nation to reign as world champions in both men’s and women’s football at the same time.
