The Catholic Diocese of Enugu has distanced itself from a planned political rally aimed at endorsing President Bola Tinubu and Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a disclaimer signed by the Director of Communications, Rev. Fr. Anthony Aneke, the Diocese said it did not approve the proposed “Historic Endorsement Rally and Adoption Ceremony” scheduled for Friday, July 3, 2026, at Jubilee Hall, Holy Ghost Cathedral, Enugu.

The Diocese stressed that Jubilee Hall and all other Church facilities under its jurisdiction are not available for partisan political activities, including rallies and endorsements.

It added that the planned event does not reflect the policy or position of the Catholic Diocese of Enugu and therefore will not hold at the venue.

The Church also expressed regret over any confusion the announcement may have caused, reiterating its commitment to remaining neutral and serving all members of society regardless of political affiliation.

Meanwhile, some political observers praised the Diocese’s decision, arguing that religious institutions should not be used for partisan political campaigns.
