The Anambra State Police Command has arrested four suspected kidnappers in separate operations, recording another major breakthrough in its crackdown on violent crime across the state.
Police spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Awkuzu, on July 15 arrested 32-year-old Okoye Ibegbunam Chukwuebuka John Bosco, popularly known as “Bone,” over the kidnapping of a victim in Okpanam, Delta State.
The victim was allegedly abducted, robbed and forced to pay a ransom before being released.
Recovered from the suspect were a locally made pistol, two live rounds of ammunition, an axe and an Itel Android phone bearing the victim’s photograph as its screensaver. Police said the suspect confessed, while efforts are ongoing to arrest other gang members.
In a separate operation on July 16, RRS operatives, working with detectives from the Ogbaru Division, foiled an attempted kidnap of a female POS operator at Iyiowa, Odekpe, arresting three suspects identified as Chekwube Chukwu, Amarachukwu Nwobosi and Sopuluchukwu Ifeakor.
A Toyota Camry with Lagos registration number LND 789HR, allegedly used by the gang, was recovered.
Investigations linked the suspects to the June 3 abduction of another female POS operator at Dominion Park, Head Bridge, Onitsha, where she was allegedly forced to pay a ₦3.5 million ransom after being dispossessed of two POS machines and mobile phones.
Police said the suspects have confessed and are assisting investigators to track down other members of the syndicate.
The Command urged residents to remain vigilant and continue providing useful information to support ongoing security operations.
